3 Big Bra Tips for Small Busted Women

Since Lula Lu specializes in lingerie for petite women, meaning we focus mainly on AA and A cup bras, you can imagine the many interesting conversations and comments we’ve heard over the years from our customers.

Based on those conversations, below are some tips we often offer to our customers and would like to share with you. Many small busted women get used to not filling their bra cups, resulting in either gaps at the top of the cups or empty space inside the cups. If you encounter these fit issues and are, for example, wearing an A cup, don’t settle for the poor fit and look for AA cup styles that will fit your body type better. Your bra cup should be touching your skin and should not be standing away from your body.
Lula Lu Petites Lightly Padded Push-up Bra
AA & A cup women don’t necessarily need to wear underwire bras. In some cases, especially when you are wearing a fitted top, the underwires on a small bust can appear as “smiley faces” under the breasts. Non-underwire bras are available in small sizes and are perfect in these instances (and they are also very comfortable).

Keep Your Breasts Healthy: How to Buy a Better (More Supportive!) Bra

SeasonBeauty

“Eighty percent of the women who walk into my store are wearing the wrong
size bra—and they don’t even realize it,” says Dan Koch, owner of Town Shop, a
New York City bra-fitting emporium. Here, his expert tips on finding the perfect
bra.

SeasonBeauty

The thicker the shoulder strap, the more support it gives; this is crucial for
full figures (D cup and up). Also, straps should be adjusted to stay put without
pressure or cutting.

Get the right cup

SeasonBeauty

A bra’s cups should completely contain the breasts and fit smoothly, with no
bulges at the top, sides, or bottom. The ideal bra is one with molded cups;
they’re the least visible underneath clothes, and they offer the most support.

Don’t ignore seams. They actually provide a lot of support.

Test for fit. Proof of a good fit? When you sit down, the position of your bra
doesn’t change.

Look for gaps

SeasonBeauty

The center of the bra (the piece that connects the two cups in the front) should
lie flat against the breastbone, without leaving a gap between the torso and the
bra. If it protrudes in the center, the bra is too small; try a larger cup size.

Check under wires

SeasonBeauty
They should relieve shoulder stress from bra straps by adding support below the
breast. Also, they should fit to the rib cage and not cut into breast tissue.

Tips for Training Bra Shopping.

SeasonBeauty

Buying a bra is one of those growing-up moments many girls will remember for years to come. Buying a teen bra symbolizes a move into womanhood and can be a fun experience. The shopping trip may create some anxiety, however, as purchasing a bra is about a trip into the unknown. Bras can seem more complicated and secretive than other garments. Using a few simple shopping tips, though, you can take the mystery out of buying your first bra and having Align Leftan enjoyable experience.

Get help from a tactful, trustworthy adult. Most girls go with their mothers. While most moms will suggest the trip when they think their daughter is ready, it is okay to ask your mom for a bra if you want to make that transition. Many girls begin wearing teen bras around age 11, but some will want to wear them when their friends begin to do so. If you’re shopping for a training bra online, your mom, aunt, or good friend’s mom can give you advice about what to look for. Some girls prefer to look online for convenience or to avoid running into classmates while their moms are giving them bra advice.

Talk to friends. If your friends are already wearing bras, they can tell you which kinds they like. But keep in mind that everyone has a different body and different needs. Your friend’s bra style could be totally different from yours-there’s no need to get the same kind unless it really is the right bra for you. Comfort is one of the most important elements of choosing the right bra, so don’t sacrifice it just because you want the same bra your friend has.

Know what you need. Bralettes, training bras, and teen bras are the same items with different names. These are the names used for small bras that lack underwire support. These bras may not even be available in “standard” bra sizing but come in small, medium, and large sizes instead. These bras use the same idea as adult bras, but provide less support, usually have larger straps, and the cups cover a larger area. Be realistic about what you need; if it’s your first bra, you’re not going to need a large cup size or an open cup bra. Training bras are a good way to get used to wearing a bra before you really need a lot of support, so use this as an opportunity to figure out what styles you like. Teen BraYou wil have plenty of time later in life to worry about finding a sheer bra, lingerie, or should you need it, plus size lingerie.

Understand sizing. Bra sizes have two parts: a number, the chest size and a letter, the cup size. Bras are sized 32B, 36D, 40D, and so on where the first number is the distance in inches around the chest just under the breasts. This location can be a bit tricky for young girls to find, but a trained bra salesperson will be able to help. To find the second part of a bra size, the cup size, measure around the center, or nipple, area and subtract it from the first chest measurement. The result of that subtraction is the cup size. A one inch difference is an A cup; two inches is a B cup; and so on. Even if you’re buying a simple small, medium, or large bra now, eventually you’ll need to be aware of what the difference in cup size means. Many women buy the wrong bra size with either the wrong band size, cup size, or a combination of the two.

Understand the importance of bras. Many women do not like wearing bras because they feel the garments are uncomfortable. Bras help to protect the breasts, particularly large breasts, from causing back pain or posture problems. A bra shouldn’t be uncomfortable-if it is, chances are it’s the wrong size. Having a band that’s too tight can be constricting; having a cup that’s too loose does nothing for support. Wearing a bra can also help your clothes look better, giving you a more “put together” appearance.

Be willing to spend a good deal of time looking for bras. A bra is not the type of garment you can just go in and grab. Instead they require a bit more looking until you find the right size and style to suit you. This is especially true for the next few years when you’re getting used to how different bras fit. If you’re shopping online, it’s probably a good idea to buy a few and return the ones that don’t fit well.

Have fun with colors and designs. Traditional teen bra s are white and plain, with maybe a little ribbon or lace. Today, teen bras can be found in all types of colors. Creativity in choosing a bra can help you enjoy the experience of getting your first bra. Take some time to look and try on different fabrics. Cotton is a good choice for a first bra, since it’s breathable and soft. There are other good choices as well. Get what feels comfortable and will make you feel good about yourself while wearing it. Most bras have two adjustable straps that go over your shoulders, but you can also get cross-back or t-back bras .

Know the different types of bras. Sports bras are bulkier and provide a flattening effect. For girls who develop early, sports bras may be a good choice for support or minimizing your breasts. These are used for sports to keep the breasts in place and protected. They may also be known as training bras or training bra tops , but they offer more support than training bras intended for the youngest bra wearers. Padded or lined bras have thin pads sewn Teen Training Brainto them; these pads work to make the breasts look larger. A few training bras come with padding , but usually they tend to be a single layer of material. Later, you may want to expand your options with an underwire bra for added support, or perhaps a strapless bra to wear with a formal dress.

Bra shopping becomes a more exciting experience if you share it with someone who is close to you. Feel free to ask questions since getting your first training bra sets up your expectations for future bra-buying excursions. Estimates suggest that most women do not wear the right size bra, so understanding the process and options now will help you in the long run.

Choosing an Equestrian Sports Bra

One of the best investments in comfort and looks for any female rider is a well-fitting, supportive sports bra.
LifeinBD

WHY?
With every step your horse takes, shock waves travel through your horse, to you. Also, your horse’s impulsion, forward and up is also transferred through you… you, in essence, become an extension of your horse.

Most places in your body, the effects of all of this can be reduced by you with conscious effort using your muscles and ligaments. Your breasts, however have no anatomical means of limiting the effects of the pounding and the momentum. So, they bounce.

BOUNCE

Bounce can cause permanent tissue damage and can be painful and distracting. In most areas of equitation, stillness through control is a goal. Therefore, from a personal and a sport-related point of view, stilling the bounce is the objective of most women riders.

Bounce is greatly decreased by the use of a well-fitting sports bra designed for high impact sports. This should be considered as an essential part of your riding wardrobe.

HIGH IMPACT SPORTS BRA
Riding is a high impact sport. Therefore, when choosing a bra for riding, discount sports bras that are indicated for Low or Medium Impact sports. They just won’t give you enough support to eliminate the bounce - even if you have a small bra size. Lingerie/Fashion bras, equally, won’t do the job for you.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A GOOD EQUESTRIAN SPORTS BRA?
A good sports bra suitable for riding provides superior breast support, comfort, breathability and moisture control.

Support
A good sport bra minimizes breast movement in one of two ways: By compression, where the breasts are held against the chest wall to limit motion; or encapsulation, in which the bra is engineered to surround and support the breasts. Sometimes one bra uses both techniques .

If you’re a small- or medium-breasted woman (A to C cup), a compression style bra will offer support and comfort. Or if you prefer, you can choose a bra that offers encapsulation for shaping as well as support.

If you’re a larger-breasted woman (C to DD cup) you may find encapsulating styles that separate and support your breasts more comfortable and more supportive than compression bras. For maximum support, choose a sport bra that does both.

Comfort
A good riding sports bra should feel comfortable on, stay in place, and not chafe. The straps shouldn’t dig into the shoulders nor should they fall off the shoulders as you rider. Nothing is more distracting than having your bra strap slip while you are riding up to a fence! The band around the lower chest shouldn’t shift up or bind. Proportions and contours should be designed for the freedom of movement that you need while riding without binding, twisting or chafing. Soft, plush threads will minimize skin irritation.

Moisture Control and Breathability
Riding is a strenuous sport, and not matter what the weather, you will likely perspire while you ride. A good equestrian sports bra will wick sweat away from your skin and then dry quickly, and it will be breathable, allowing perspiration and excess heat to pass through. A good sport bra will keep you cooler and drier when it’s hot, and drier and warmer when it’s cold.

Good looks too!
An added bonus not mentioned on the label of most sports bras is the impovement in the overall look of the garments worn over the bra! You will find that your show jacket will fit better - sometimes a size smaller - particularly in one of the high compression bras.

Improved concentration
Another hidden benefit is better concentration! Sounds a little far-reaching? Not if you have had to contend with a serious bounce issue. The sheer relief of being able to concentrate on your riding, instead of the bounce, will be enormous.

Let your riding be the focus of the judge’s eye and awe the spectators with your equitation. Still your mind and the bounce with a good equestrian sports bra -the investment is priceless.

Fabrics
Today there are many different fabrics to choose from. Here’s a list of the most popular sports bra fabrics, along with a brief explanation of their benefits.

* Supplex® Nylon/Lycra® Spandex - Offers soft, luxurious feel and incredible fit, support and shape retention.
* Cotton/Lycra® Spandex - Soft, moisture-managing cotton combines with shape-retaining Lycra® to create a very comfortable fabric with just the right amount of stretch and support.
* CoolMax® Polyester/Lycra® Spandex - This high-performance fabric blend delivers you all the moisture-wicking benefits of CoolMax® plus the comfort, stretch and shape retention of Lycra®.
* Polyester/Cotton/Lycra® Spandex - This 3-fiber blend offers polyester and cotton for softness and moisture management while Lycra® provides optimal fit and support.
*
Polyester/Cotton - Classic blend provides gentle softness and powerful moisture management for all your workouts.

CARING FOR YOUR SPORTS BRA/LIFE SPAN
The functional life of your sports bra can be lengthened by several months or even years just by caring for it properly. The best way to extend the life of your bra is to wash it by hand and have it air-dry.

Washing machine cycles are usually too rough, and dryers can destroy the elasticity and support of the fabric. All sports bras have care instructions on a label attached to the bra, so read them carefully. Hand washing and air-drying will lengthen the life of your bra regardless of the washing instructions.

Some signs that your sports bra is at or near the end of its functional life are: (1) restriction against vertical movement decreases considerably, (2) the fabric begins to pill, or (3) the fit seems to be too loose or too big but your measurements have not changed.

SOME BRANDS AND BRAS TO CHOOSE FROM
Equestrian Collections features equestrian sports bras for a multitude of shapes and sizes.

Moving Comfort : You can choose from a wide variety of Moving Comfort Sport Bras. Each has been picked for their suitability for using in an equestrian environment. Every one offers comfort, moisture control and breathability.

Enell - No Bounce Guaranteed Bra: We have sold this bra for nearly 10 years - and this is at the pinnacle of bounce control. It is a high compression bra that has some encapsulation properties, so that you have some separation and lift. Comes in 8 sizes and is front fastening. The fabric does not have moisture wicking properties, but is actually very comfortable to wear, giving slightly as you get warm while riding. If you need serious bounce control… this is the bra for you.

Sporteze: Sporteze offers a range of compression sports bras, designed by a rider. They come well-recommended by testers and the line has just been updated with a Coolmax version for greater moisture control and breathablility.

How to Measure Bra Size

SeasonBeauty

First put on your favorite bra that you think makes your breasts the right shape and feels most comfortable. Next you will need to find a flexible measuring tape (the kind a seamstress would use). You may also need to grab a trusted friend to help you measure, since it is difficult to keep the tape level around your body. The first measurement to take is around your ribcage, just below your breasts. Now add 5 to this number to get your band size. If the resulting band size was an odd number, you will need to round up to the next even number since bra bands only come in even numbers.

The second measurement should be taken around the fullest part of your bosom with your favorite bra on. This measurement is your cup size. Next subtract your band size from your cup size to calculate the right cup size. Refer to the bra cup size chart below:

Bra Size Chart

1” larger than measurement 1——————–A
2” larger than measurement 1——————–B
3” larger than measurement 1——————–C
4” larger than measurement 1——————–D
5” larger than measurement 1——————–E
6” larger than measurement 1——————–F

What the Right Bra Size Shouldn’t Do

With so many ladies wearing the wrong bra size, I thought I would take a moment to discuss the signs that you might be wearing the wrong size bra. Below is a list of no-no’s when it comes to bra fit.Breasts should not fall out below the bra when raising your hands above your head. If they do try, going down a band size

The middle part of your bra that sits between your breasts should sit flat on your rib cage. If it doesn’t try, going up a cup size.

The band of your bra should stay level around the circumference of your body. A band that rides up in the back means your band size is too big.

The bra straps should only be 10% of the support your bra gives. If your bras straps are doing all the work, consider going down a band size.

Breasts should fit comfortably into the bra cup with no overflow, double-bubble, or wrinkles in the bra fabric.

Your bra band should not be giving you the illusion of back fat. If this is happening try a larger band size or a difference style bra.

first bra !

Find information, advice and teen stories

Seasonbeauty

Hear first hand from girls how they chose their first bras and their most embarrassing moments.
What you need to know Learn what you need to know about when you need to start wearing a bra and what styles to choose from.
Choosing your first bra is a big step in any girls life.
Most girls worry about their breasts and just when is the right time for them to buy their first bra.
For many it will depend on just how supportive their mum is, if your mum is OK with it, she’ll probably support you and even go with you to get fitted for a bra.

When should I get my first bra ?

Girls mature at different ages, so some girls are out buying a training bra at the age of 7 or 8, whereas others are covering up in the school changing rooms until they buy their first bra at 15 or 16.

There is no “right” time to buy your first bra – probably the best time is when you start to feel self-conscious without one. There’s no harm in getting one before you need one and it can help you get used to wearing one.

How to measure your bra size?
If you’re buying your first bra it can be helpful to go to the lingerie area of a big department store so that you can be measured and fitted by a professional lingerie consultant, as determining your own bra cup size is difficult for any women. A consultant will help you understand about sizing and how your size will change as your grow up and may even be different at different times of the month.
Don’t just buy one bra, but at least two, to allow time for hand washing and drying.

You know it’s a bad day when you put your bra on backwards and it fits better.

Wrong fitting can lead to painful, tender breasts and red marks on your skin. With all the other changes going on in your body, a proper fitting can help prevent any health concerns or worries.

How to easily put on a bra?
Different women find their own way of putting on a bra – after a while you’ll do it without even thinking.
Here’s an easy way to follow:-
Place the straps over your shoulders
Lean forward and your breast should fall into the cups.
Stand up straight and hook the bra up.
Ask a friend, sister or your mum for advice on how to fasten and adjust your new bras so that they are comfortable and so that the straps don’t fall down at inconvenient moments.

What style of bra should I buy ?
Many girls opt for the sports bra style which gives a little support, but some may prefer a softly padded bra to enhance their growing breasts. Training bras refer to bras in specially small sizes for girls who don’t yet fit the standard women’s sizing.
Try on different styles of bras as you’ll find that different brands have slightly different fits.
If your mum will treat you to matching panties, so much the better, as you can really enjoy choosing which underwear to put on each morning.
Once you’ve started to fill out you can invest in a bra that gives support and for special occasions you might want to try a “cleavage” bra such as the Wonder bra.

Pictures of Bra Styles?
If you’ve seen a picture in a magazine of something you’d like, try keeping it somewhere safe until you’re going shopping.
Many families have store catalogues delivered to their homes, and browsing through one of these can give you an idea of the sorts of styles that you like.

Enjoy!
Most women have a warm memory of choosing their first bras – the feeling of becoming a woman that it gave them and leaving their childhood behind.
